Raffaele De Caterina is a Professor of Cardiology and Director of the University Cardiology Division at ‘G d’Annunzio’ University in Chieti. He also serves as Director of the Laboratory for Thrombosis and Vascular Research at the CNR Institute of Clinical Physiology, Pisa. Professor De Caterina is on the Board of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), for which he serves as Vice President. He is also a member of the ESC’s Congress Programme Committee, and is Chairman of the Council for Basic Cardiovascular Sciences. He has served on the steering committees for numerous ongoing or recently completed clinical trials with antithrombotic drugs in atrial fibrillation and acute coronary syndromes, including ACTIVE, ARISTOTLE, AVERROES and APPRAISE-2.
