This independent broadcast will highlight the take-home messages from the new ESC Guidelines on Cardio-Oncology.

In the first part of the programme chairs of the new ESC Guidelines on Cardio-Oncology summarised the key take-home messages.

In the second part they answered questions coming from the audience with the moderation of Dr Arjun Ghosh.

Alexander Lyon

Alexander Lyon

Dr Alexander Lyon is a leading London-based consultant cardiologist, specialising in the field of heart failure, cardiomyopathy, cardio-oncology and takotsubo syndrome. He is highly experienced, and is well-versed in all aspects of cardiology. Along with his private clinics at Royal Brompton Hospital and in central London, he is also senior lecturer for the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London.

Dr Lyon graduated with a first class degree from Oxford University, and gained experience doing post-graduate training in London and Sydney before setting up private practice in London. He also holds a PhD. He is renowned for his research into heart failure and takotsubo syndrome, and is lead for the heart failure research theme of the Biomedical Research Unit at the Royal Brompton Hospital, funded by the National Institute of Health Research.

Teresa Lopez Fernandez

Teresa Lopez Fernandez

Dr Teresa Lopez Fernandez leads the Cardio-Oncology Unit at University Hospital La Paz, Madrid, ES. She specialises in cardiac imaging, and is board certified in transesophageal echocardiography by the ESC. She is the founder and chair of the Spanish Cardio-Oncology Working Group at the Spanish Society of Cardiology, and has previously provided lectures on this topic at both national and international conferences. 

Her research interests include cardiotoxicity diagnosis and prevention, and the mechanisms, treatment and diagnosis of the cardiac complications of cancer therapies and cardiac imaging.

Arjun K Ghosh

Arjun K Ghosh

Dr Arjun Ghosh MBBS, MRCP (UK), MRCP (Card), MSc, PhD, FHEA, FACC, is a Consultant Cardiologist at Barts Heart Centre (BHC), St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, London and at University College London Hospital (UCLH).

He is the first Cardiologist in the UK to be appointed specifically in Cardio-Oncology and helped establish Cardio-Oncology services at both these hospitals. The services deal with screening for cardiotoxicity, monitoring patients on potentially cardiotoxic therapy and managing cardiac complications of cancer therapy. Alongside the clinical service, Cardio-Oncology research is undertaken at both sites and there is a thriving educational component to the service with fellows from the UK and across the world.

Arjun is also actively involved in developing Cardio-Oncology guidelines and changing practice through the British Society of Echocardiography, British Cardio-Oncology Society and International Cardio-Oncology Society. He also runs the UK’s only national Cardio-Oncology Study Day and is organizing the first European Cardio-oncology Symposium which will be held in Barcelona in October 2019.
