Biography

Dr Mullen is a consultant cardiologist with the NHS, based at the Barts Heart Centre in London, UK. He is internationally recognised for his expertise in the treatment of structural heart disease, with nearly 20 years of experience in this field. His private practice is based at the Harley Street Clinic and Barts Heart Centre, where he is the clinical lead for structural heart intervention. Previously, he was director of the cardiac catheter laboratories at the Royal Brompton and Harefield NHS Trust.

He has played a key role in the development of new technologies for the treatment of conditions such as valvular heart disease, patent foramen ovale (PFO), atrial septal defect (ASD) and aortic coarctation and their introduction into the UK. These technologies include transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), MitraClip, Cardioband and suture closure of patent foramen ovale. Dr Mullen has a broad research portfolio, leading and participating in numerous clinical trials. He is frequently invited to give lectures and live demonstrations at national and international conferences
