Biography

Dr Ignacio Ferreira Gonzalez is currently an associate professor at the Autonomous University of Barcelona and, since 2020, Head of the Cardiology Department at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital, Barcelona, ES.

Between 1997-2022 he trained as a clinical cardiologist at the Vall d’Hebron University Hospital to later complete a four-year training in clinical research methodology and epidemiology, one of them at McMaster University in Canada. Upon his return from Canada he delivered his doctoral dissertation on Composite Endpoints in clinical trials and then joined the Cardiology Department as a clinical cardiologist in 2007.

Dr Ferreira Gonzalez has coordinated several multicentre studies on the effectiveness, safety and cost-effectiveness of cardiovascular interventions and many clinical research studies in several areas, including infective endocarditis. Besides this, one of his passions has been the research in methodology, which has been developed in the context of the “CIBER Epidemiology and Public Health” network, in which he is the coordinator of group 8.

He has subspecialised in valvular and pericardial diseases, areas of knowledge fully consolidated in the department. He has co-authored more than 200 articles on indexed, peer-reviewed medical journals (H Index: 35).
