Biography
Dr Alicia Okines is a consultant in medical oncology at the Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust and the team leader for the Breast Cancer Systemic Therapy Trials team.
Dr Okines studied pharmacology at the University of Sheffield, where she also pursued her medical training. Throughout her oncology residency at The Royal Marsden Hospital and the Institute of Cancer Research, she earned an MD(Res), focusing on the assessment of targeted agents in conjunction with chemotherapy regimens for advanced esophago-gastric cancer.
Dr. Okines specializes in neo-adjuvant chemotherapy for early-stage breast cancer and the management of metastatic breast cancer, including brain disease.
Her primary research pursuits revolve around clinical trials and translational research related to metastatic breast cancer. Currently, she is at the forefront of a UK trial focusing on lobular breast cancer and holds the position of Honorary Faculty at the Institute of Cancer Research. In 2019, Dr. Okines became an expert member of the Chelsea Research Ethics Committee.
Assuming the role of team leader for the Breast Cancer Systemic Therapy Trials team in June 2018, Dr. Okines currently co-leads the Royal Marsden's Acute Oncology service in Chelsea.
