In the ESC Congress 2021 episode of the Masterclass video series, host, Dr Harriette Van Spall (McMaster University, CA) meets with Dr Birgit Vogel (Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, US), one of the commissioners and first author of the "The Lancet women and cardiovascular disease Commission: reducing the global burden by 2030" report.
Dr Vogel talks about the rationale of the report. CV disease is still the leading cause of mortality in women. The commission set out to "identify existing evidence and gaps in cardiovascular research, treatment, access to care and prevention in women." Dr Van Spall asks Dr Vogel about what the data show about how disease varies across income levels around the world. They discuss the different factors that may influence women's health. Dr Vogel points out the gaps and shares the learnings from the report.
Recorded remotely from Hamilton and New York, 2021.
