Villines to receive 2021 SCCT Gold Medal Award

Arlington, Va. (April 26, 2021) —The Society of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (SCCT) will present the 2021 Gold Medal Award to Todd C. Villines, MD, MSCCT, at the SCCT 16th Annual Scientific Virtual Meeting on July 16. The SCCT Gold Medal Award recognizes outstanding leaders who have made landmark contributions to the field of cardiovascular computed tomography and to the society.

“Dr. Villines is a true leader in our field. He embodies all the talents of a thoughtful and experienced clinician and imager as well as a prominent mentor and educator,.” says SCCT President Koen Nieman, MD, MSCCT. “He exemplifies the highest commitment to the advancement of cardiovascular computed tomography through clinical excellence, leadership, teaching, and dedicated research. It is with great pleasure that we recognize Dr. Villines with the 2021 Gold Medal Award – the highest honor bestowed by SCCT.”

Dr. Villines is recognized for his contributions as SCCT president in 2017– - 2018; his outstanding leadership as editor-in-chief of the Journal of Cardiovascular Computed Tomography (JCCT); editorship of the expanded and improved SCCT Board Prep Book (4th ed.); and his dedication as a program planner and faculty for several Annual Scientific Meetings as well as the numerous CTA Academy workshops he has led. Furthermore, he has served as an esteemed mentor who paved the way for many of his colleagues to excel and as a champion for always supporting the mission of SCCT throughout different roles in the wider cardiology field.

Dr. Todd C. Villines is a Julian Ruffin Beckwith Distinguished Professor of Medicine and clinical cardiologist at the Cardiovascular Imaging Center at the University of Virginia Health System and School of Medicine in Charlottesville, Virginia. He is an active clinical cardiologist, multimodality cardiovascular imager and clinical researcher with focus in the areas of cardiovascular imaging and prevention. Dr. Villines has published more than 200 peer-reviewed manuscripts, three books and eight book chapters, primarily in the areas of cardiovascular imaging, outcomes and prevention.

Dr. Villines will be recognized as the winner of the Gold Medal at the SCCT 16th Annual Scientific Virtual Meeting (SCCT2021) on July 16.
