Personal History

Dr William Fuller Fearon is a Professor of Medicine and the Director of Interventional Cardiology at Stanford University School of Medicine.

 

Academic History

Dr Fearon graduated from Dartmouth College with his Bachelor’s in 1990. In 1994, he received his medical degree from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was elected into the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.1, 2

He completed an Internal Medicine residency at Stanford University Medical Center where he remained for an extra year as a Medical Chief Resident. He completed a General Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology fellowship at Stanford, spending his third year as the Chief Cardiology Fellow.1

 

Career Overview

He is currently a Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) and Director of Interventional Cardiology at Stanford University Medical Center.1

Dr Fearon’s primary areas of research interest is in coronary physiology and his clinical activities include percutaneous coronary intervention and transcatheter aortic valve replacement.1

He was the US principal investigator and senior author of the FAME trial and was a co-principal investigator and senior author of the FAME 2 trial. He has been published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the New England Journal of Medicine. He is now the principal investigator of the international FAME 3 trial comparing bypass surgery to fractional flow reserve guided percutaneous coronary intervention.1

He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine and interventional cardiology and is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American Heart Association and the Society of Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions. He has also been elected to the American Society for Clinical Investigation.1

Dr Fearon has presented and published a number of abstracts and peer-reviewed papers and serves on the editorial board of the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, JACC Cardiovascular Interventions and Circulation: Cardiovascular Interventions.1
