Biography

Professor Shakeel Qureshi is a London based paediatric cardiologist whose achievements include interventions in congenital heart disease. He carries out a variety of interventions in paediatric and adult congenital cardiology, including ballooning of arteries and valves. He has developed innovative keyhole procedures as a consultant paediatric cardiologist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ Hospital Trust and has become an established part of the management of heart defects.

Professor Qureshi directs the Cardiac Catheterisation Laboratory at Guy’s Hospital and continues to innovate in the design of new keyhole surgical instruments. He co-invented the Ty-Shak balloon catheter which is now widely used for interventions. He is Chairman of the Medical Board of Chain of Hope (UK charity) and spends time teaching his keyhole surgical techniques to other doctors in developing countries, reducing the gap in knowledge and ultimately helping to save lives.
