Ricardo Seabra-Gomes is Clinical Director of the Instituto do Coração. Prior to this, he served as National Co-ordinator for Cardiovascular Disease (Portuguese Ministry of Health) (2005–2008) and was Director of the Department of Cardiology, Hospital Santa Cruz (1984–2005). Between 1973 and 1978 he served as a Research Fellow at the National Heart Hospital and Cardiothoracic Institute, London. Dr Seabra-Gomes served as President of the Portuguese Society of Cardiology between 2001 and 2003. He has been a member of the steering committee and national co-ordinator in 43 international and four national multicentre studies, and local principal investigator in 100 international and national multicenter trials and registries. He has authored or co-authored over 500 scientific papers and almost 1,200 published abstracts.
