Biography

Dr Rakesh Yadav was born and raised in Uttar Pradesh, India. He completed his schooling and early education in the region before pursuing a career in medicine. Over the course of his academic and professional life, he has lived and worked in several cities across India, including Gorakhpur, Agra, and New Delhi. Today, he serves at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, one of the country’s foremost medical institutions, where he continues to contribute to clinical medicine, research, and national health policy.

 

Academic History

Dr Yadav began his medical journey at Gorakhpur Medical College, where he completed his MBBS with multiple distinctions. He then pursued postgraduate training in internal medicine at Sarojini Naidu Medical College, Agra, earning his MD with a Gold Medal, demonstrating early academic excellence and deep commitment to clinical medicine.

Following his MD, Dr Yadav entered the super-specialty training program at AIIMS, New Delhi, the leading medical center in India. He completed his DM in Cardiology with a Gold Medal, marking him as one of the top emerging cardiologists of his generation.

Throughout his academic progression, Dr Yadav developed a strong interest in interventional cardiology and electrophysiology, areas in which he would later establish national leadership.

 

Career Overview

After completing his super-specialty training, Dr Yadav joined the Department of Cardiology at AIIMS, New Delhi, where he has built a distinguished career as a clinician, academician, and medical leader. He currently serves as Professor, Department of Cardiology, and has previously held the administrative positions of Sub-Dean (Academic)and Acting Dean of AIIMS New Delhi, contributing significantly to academic governance and institutional development.

A highly skilled interventional cardiologist and cardiac electrophysiologist, Dr Yadav has performed and supervised complex cardiac procedures, mentored young cardiologists, and shaped clinical practice standards in India.

His editorial and academic leadership is widely recognized. He is the Editor of the Indian Heart Journal, one of India’s most prestigious cardiology publications. He also serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology, published by Radcliffe Cardiology.

Dr Yadav has played key roles in India’s leading professional cardiology societies. He is the former Secretary of the Cardiology Society of India (Delhi Branch), an Executive Committee Member of the Cardiology Society of India, and Joint Secretary of both the Heart Failure Society of India and the International Society for Heart Research (Indian Section).

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Yadav is a Reviewer for major government funding agencies, including ICMR, DST, and DBT, and reviews submissions for numerous national and international scientific journals. He has delivered over 250 guest lectures at conferences across India and abroad, and he is well known for his public outreach efforts through lectures, newspaper articles, radio discussions, and television programs focused on cardiovascular health.

Dr Yadav has published more than 100 scientific articles and remains an active researcher involved in national scientific committees of the Government of India, ICMR, DST, and other bodies shaping health research policy and practice.
