Biography
Patrick Serruys is Professor of Interventional Medicine and Innovation at the National University of Ireland, Galway, Ireland.
He has been an interventional cardiologist since 1977, and has served as a lead in interventional research since 1988, including as Chief of Interventional Cardiology at the Thoraxcenter, The Netherlands, from 1997 to 2012. In 2006, Prof Serruys and Prof John Ormiston led the development of fully biodegradable drug-eluting scaffolds.
Prof Serruys has won career achievement awards from the TCT, the American College of Cardiology, and the European Society of Cardiology. He has lectured internationally, and is widely published in leading international peer-reviewed journals.
