Markus Flesch is Assistant Professor in Department III of Internal Medicine at the University of Cologne, where he was previously Clinical Fellow. He was awarded the Junior Investigator Award from the German Society of Internal Medicine in 1997 and 1999 and the Angiotensin II Young Investigator Award from Merck in the US. His major research interests cover pathophysiology and the treatment of cardiac hypertrophy and heart failure. Dr Flesch gained a degree in medicine from the Friedrich- Wilhelms University in Bonn in 1993. He gained a medical state examination in 1992, a board examination in internal medicine in 1999 and a board examination in clinical cardiology in 2002. He also trained at the University College Medical School in London, the University Hospital in Bonn and at the National Hospital for Nervous Diseases in London.
