Biography

Dr Jeanne DeCara is the founder and director of the Cardio-Oncology programme at University of Chicago Medicine, Chicago, US.

Her practice focuses on diagnosing and treating heart disorders among patients who have received or are about to receive chemotherapy with potential cardiac side effects and/or chest radiation as part of their cancer therapy.  

Dr DeCara’s research focus is directed toward the application of noninvasive imaging techniques for the diagnosis and prognosis of patients with clinical and subclinical heart disease. She has expertise in the area of echocardiography, including use of strain for early detection of left ventricular dysfunction in patients receiving potentially cardiotoxic chemotherapy.

She currently serves as President-Elect of the Echocardiography Board of the Intersocietal Accreditation Commission. She has served on the national American College of Cardiology Cardio-Oncology section leadership council and has recently been invited to be a member of the American Heart Association Cardio-Oncology Subcommittee of the Council on Clinical Cardiology.
