Biography

Derek Chew is a clinical and interventional cardiologist as well as a clinical trialist, and health systems researcher in cardiovascular medicine. He has completed a Masters of Public Health at the Harvard School of Public Health, with formal training in epidemiology, trial design, biostatistics, clinical trials and cost-effectiveness analysis. His PhD thesis explored the factors for improving heart attack care in Australia. He holds numerous NHMRC grants exploring health system adaption in the face current and emerging technologies in cardiac care. He has most recently the Heart and Vascular program of the SAHMRI and co-leads the lifelong Health Theme and is the Network Director of Cardiology for the Southern Adelaide Health Local Heath Network. He is also currently a Professor of Cardiology Flinders University. He has national and international roles in chest pain/ACS evidence generation, assimilation and translation. In clinical guideline development he has led the Heart Foundation/CSANZ ACS Guidelines writing group 2016 and served on the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines for the management of ACS Writing committee 2015. In addition, he chairs the Cardiovascular Disease Expert Advisory Group, the primary CV disease monitoring body of the AIHW; while providing expert advice to the Australian Commission for Quality and Safety in Health care. He has authored over 290 manuscripts and book chapters.

Dr Derek Chew is a deputy editor of the Journal of Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology, published by Radcliffe Cardiology on behalf of the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology.
