David E Allie is Chief of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at Cardiovascular Institute of the South/Lafayette, and was the first cardiovascular surgeon in the US to work extensively with IPPA, a new diagnostic imaging system that shows promise of greatly enhancing ability to assess the bypass surgery prospects of patients who have suffered extensive heart damage. He was also the first in his area of the US to become certified in abdominal aortic aneurysm stent graft exclusions. Dr Allie is board-certified in thoracic and general surgery, and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American College of Angiology (ACA) and the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP). He is the author and co-author of numerous presentations and publications in his specialty, and lectures extensively to medical audiences. He was also the recipient of the Columbia/HCA CV Surgeon of the Year award in 1999. Dr Allie received his undergraduate degree from Marshall University and his medical degree from West Virginia University Medical School. He completed his Cardiothoracic surgery training and a postgraduate vascular fellowship at the Carolina Heart Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina.
