Overview
This breakout session hosted at Transcatheter Interventions Online 2024 is for interventional cardiologists keen on advancing their expertise in vascular closure techniques, with a special emphasis on large bore closures, the MultiCLOSE algorithm in TAVI procedures, and arterial and venous closures. Expert speakers, including Darren Mylotte, Ole De Backer and Liesbeth Rosseel, share insights and findings from their extensive experience and recent studies.
Learning objectives
- Learn the essential techniques and best practices for safe and successful large bore vascular closure
- Explore the application and effectiveness of the MultiCLOSE algorithm in TAVI procedures through the TAVI-MultiCLOSE Study insights
- Absorb real-world experiences and strategies for both arterial and venous closure techniques to enhance procedural outcomes
Target Audience
- Interventional Cardiologists
- Surgeons with an interest in transcatheter treatment strategies for coronary and structural heart disease
- Interventional Cardiology Nurses

Darren Mylotte
Consultant Cardiologist
Dr Darren Mylotte graduated from RCSI Medical School in 2001, obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in 2004, and completed the Irish Cardiology Specialist Training Scheme. He and was conferred with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) thesis in 2010 by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and has also undertaken a PhD thesis. N the subject of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) at the world renowned ThoraxCentre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
Ole De Backer
Interventional Cardiologist
Prof Ole De Backer is an internationally renowned interventional cardiologist working at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, Denmark and is an expert in structural heart interventions – among others transcatheter heart valve interventions, percutaneous left atrial appendage closure and thoracic endovascular aortic repair. Special areas of interest are the development and adoption of a fully percutaneous, minimal invasive approach for different structural heart interventions and the use of advanced cardiac imaging tools for planning and guidance of these interventions. He is actively involved and leading several research projects in the field of transcatheter heart valves and percutaneous left atrial appendage closure.
