e-SPACE Cardio-Renal-Metabolic 2023 was the third edition of the annual global online conference that explores how leading experts, in cardiology, nephrology, and diabetology, are treating the interrelated diseases.

 

Course leadership Prof Stefan Anker (Berlin, DE), Dr Javed Butler (Texas, US), Prof Antonio Ceriello (Milan, IT), Prof Tara I Chang (California, US), Prof Ian de Boer (Washington, US), Prof Peter Rossing (Copenhagen, DK) and Prof Shelley Zieroth (Winnipeg, CA) lead an interactive programme of plenary sessions, meet the expert, case discussions and satellite symposium sessions focusing on the patient journey.

 

For the first time, e-SPACE Cardio-Renal-Metabolic 2023 brought together TMA’s mandate for the delivery of continuing professional development to healthcare professionals to achieve concordance with appropriate treatment plans, alongside KDIGO's mission to improve the care and outcomes of patients with kidney disease worldwide through the development and implementation of global clinical practice guidelines, with Radcliffe Cardiology’s goal to deliver cardiovascular knowledge to best support cardiovascular communities transform theory into practice.

Javed Butler

Javed Butler

Professor of Medicine

Dr Javed Butler is President, Baylor Scott and White Research Institute, Senior Vice President for the Baylor Scott and White Health and Professor of Medicine at the University of Mississippi, US. He is board certified in cardiovascular medicine and advanced heart failure and transplant medicine. His research interests focus on clinical trials in patients with heart failure.

He serves on several national committees for the American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, National Institutes of Health, and the Heart Failure Society of America. He is the recipient of the Simon Dack Award by the American College of Cardiology as well as the Time, Feeling, and Focus Award by the American Heart Association.

Prof Butler has authored more than 900 peer-reviewed publications. He serves on the editorial board of several peer reviewed cardiovascular journals and has been cited numerous times in America’s Best Doctors list.

Sunil Bhandari

Consultant in Nephrology

Prof Sunil Bhandari is a Consultant in Nephrology and Honorary Professor at Hull York Medical School, York, UK.

He graduated from the University of Edinburgh and trained in Renal and Transplant Medicine in Yorkshire (UK) and Sydney (AU).

Prof Bhandari leads, in collaboration, a research programme based around renal anaemia, CKD progression and the effects of iron therapy on cardiac and renal function.

Dr Edgar V Lerma is a nephrologist at University of Illinois, Illinois, US.

Dr Lerma earned his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Santo Tomas Faculty of Medicine and Surgery in Manila, the Philippines.

His clinical interests include peritoneal dialysis, dialysis vascular access, angioplasty, dialysis (haemodialysis), acid base disorders and hypertension.

Faiez Zannad

Professor of Therapeutics and Cardiology, Head of CIC

Prof Faiez Zannad is Professor of Therapeutics & Cardiology and Head of the Division of Heart Failure, Hypertension and Preventive Cardiology for the department of Cardiovascular Disease of the Academic Hospital (CHU) in Nancy and the Director of the Clinical Investigation Centre (Inserm-CHU).

Prof Zannad is currently the Chairman of the ESC Working group on Pharmacology and Drug Therapy as well as a Boardmember of the ESC Heart Failure Association. He is Past-President of the French Society of Hypertension. 

Prof Zannad is Co-Editor-in-Chief for Fundamental and Clinical Pharmacology, the official journal of the European Pharmacology Societies Federation (EUPHAR). He chairs and organises annual international meetings on CardioVascular Clinical Trials (CVCT) and on Biomarkers in Heart Failure.

Dr Janani Rangaswami is a Nephrologist and Professor of Medicine at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences, Washington, US.

She has authored over a 100 publications in cardiorenal medicine, and is the lead editor of two textbooks in this field.

Dr Rangaswami's current research studies include studying platelet reactivity and its variability with hemodialysis and the effects of statins in erythropoietin dosing in dialysis patients.

Gerasimos Filippatos

Professor of Cardiology

Prof Gerasimos Filippatos is a Professor of Cardiology and Cardiologist at National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, Athens, GR.

He studied Medicine at the University of Patras, and earned his doctorate Cum Laude from the University of Athens.

Prof Filippatos is Past President of the Heart Failure Association (HFA) of the European Society of Cardiology and he has published over 600 articles in peer-reviewed journals and authored more than 30 book chapters.
