Science of DCB

In episode, both physicians will discuss the origins behind the drug-coated balloons (DCBs) technology. One of the fathers of DCB technology Prof Bruno Scheller, will share a fascinating story about how a bit of luck and solid experimentation had a tremendous impact on what is now seen as a very exciting new era in cardiology. Followed by episode 2, Prof. Scheller and Dr Tunev delve into an important discussion around the benefits of DCBs vs DES and PTX vs Limus, providing insights on DCB mechanisms of action and predictors of long-tern efficacy. Questions 1: How do DCBs work in the vessel? Question 2: What are the benefits of DCB vs DES? Question 3: What is the difference between the two drugs in the context of DCB?

DCB: Role of Predilatation and dissection assessment

This episode sheds light on very important steps of the DCB-alone PCI - lesion preparation and dissection assessment. Prof. Scheller and Dr. Mylote discuss how their practice has evolved in terms of preparing the lesion for treatment with a DCB, and share their recommendations how to manage different types of dissections.

Darren Mylotte

Consultant Cardiologist

Dr Mylotte graduated from RCSI Medical School in 2001, obtained membership of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland in 2004, and completed the Irish Cardiology Specialist Training Scheme. He and was conferred with a Doctor of Medicine (MD) thesis in 2010 by the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and has also undertaken a PhD thesis. N the subject of Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) at the world renowned ThoraxCentre in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. Dr Mylotte undertook a two-year clinical interventional cardiology fellowship at the acclaimed Institut Cardiovasculaire de Paris, in Massy, France. He also performed a further two-year advanced fellowship in congenital and structural heart disease at McGill University, Montreal, Canada.

Dr Mylotte specializes in general cardiology, and has subspecialty interests in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of ischaemic heart disease, valvular heart disease
