Victor F Tapson is a Professor of Medicine in the Division of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at Duke University Medical Center. He also serves as Director of the Duke Pulmonary Vascular Disease Center. Dr Tapson became a Fellow in Pulmonary Medicine in 1986 at Boston University Medical Center and Boston City Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. He has received several awards for his work, including the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) Ciba-Geigy Fellowship Award, Alfred Soffer Research Award and Young Investigators Award. He serves as Chairman of the Consensus Statements for the Diagnostic Approach to Acute Venous Thromboembolism and the Therapeutic Approach to Acute Venous Thromboembolism of the American Thoracic Society (ATS), where he has also served as a contributor to consensus statements on antithrombotic therapy. He is an active member of several societies, including the Pulmonary Hypertension Association (PHA) Scientific Leadership Committee, the Pulmonary Circulation Assembly of the ATS and the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis (ISTH). Dr Tapson has authored or co-authored over 140 papers in peer-reviewed journals and more than 10 book chapters.
