On Topaz is a full Professor of Medicine (Cardiology) and Pathology at the School of Medicine of the Medical College of Virginia/Virginia Commonwealth University and the Director of Interventional Cardiology at the McGuire Veterans Affairs in Richmond, Virginia. He is a fellow of numerous colleges and societies including the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. He is also a member of the American Heart Association (AHA), and the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, among others. Professor Topaz pioneered the application of lasers for debulking of complex lesions in ischemic thrombotic coronary syndromes, especially for treatment of acute myocardial infarction, for revascularization of old bypass vein grafts, and for management of ischemic depressed left ventricular ejection fraction. He developed safe and effective lasering techniques that are utilized in coronary laser procedures around the world. Professor Topaz has authored 100 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, 44 abstracts and 10 book chapters, and serves as the North American Editor-in-Chief of Lasers in Medical Science. He is also on the editorial board of nine peer-reviewed cardiology journals. Upon completion of a cardiology residency in Israel, he proceeded with training in three fellowships in the US: Cardiovascular Pathology at the University of Minnesota, adult Cardiology at the University of Miami and Interventional Cardiology at the Medical College of Virginia.
