Petros Nihoyannopoulos is President of the European Association of Echocardiography (EAE) and a Professor of Cardiology at Hammersmith Hospital and Imperial College, London. His key research interest is the study of ventricular function using ultrasound, and he holds several research grants for the study of heart muscle disease with tissue Doppler and the use of contrast microbubbles for detecting myocardial perfusion and inflammation. Professor Nihoyannopoulos is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), the Royal College of Physicians and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), and Past President of the British Society of Echocardiography. He has published over 200 full papers in peer-reviewed journals and 350 abstracts, in addition to more than 20 book chapters. Professor Nihoyannopoulos qualified at Université Louis Pasteur, Strasbourg in 1979, before completing his training in cardiology at Hammersmith Hospital.
