Personal History
Dr Isabella Tan is a software programmer turned cardiovascular research scientist. She is a Research Fellow at the Macquarie Medical School, Macquarie University, Sydney.2
She enjoys watching Japanese anime and reading manga. In addition to English, she speaks Cantonese and Mandarin.1, 4
Academic History
In 2003, Dr Tan graduated from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Computer Engineering and a Masters in Biomedical Engineering (First class honours).1
Dr Tan earned her PhD in Biomedical Sciences from Macquarie University in 2016.1

Dr Tan is currently a Research Fellow at Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia.
Dr Tan’s research focuses on the utility of arterial stiffness and central aortic blood pressure measurement in health and disease, in particular hypertension.2
Dr Tan has run the Australian arm of multiple international clinical trials investigating 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure as a diagnostic tool. She assists in the running of the Blood Pressure and Vascular Function Laboratory, administering tests for ambulatory blood pressure and cardiac autonomic function. She also has a role in education, teaching across the Bachelor of Clinical Science and Medical Doctorate programs.2
She was the recipient of a 2021 CVRN Professional Development Award which enables researchers to disseminate their findings to the wider research community, enhance their professional skills and build professional networks.3
