George A Beller, MD, MACC, is the Ruth C Heede Professor of Cardiology and former Chief of the Cardiovascular Division at the University of Virginia Health System, Charlottesville, Virginia. Dr Beller served as Chief of the Cardiovascular Division at the University of Virginia for 27 years, following three years on the staff of the Massachusetts General Hospital. His research has predominantly been in the field of nuclear cardiology. He has more than 370 publications, is the author of Clinical Nuclear Cardiology and co-edited Nuclear Cardiology: State of the Art and Future Directions, the third edition of which was published recently. He is also editor-in-chief of the Journal of Nuclear Cardiology. Dr Beller is Past-Chairman of the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association (AHA), Past-Chairman of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) Board of Governors, and Past-President of the ACC (2000 to 2001). In 1999, he was President of the Association of University Cardiologists and, in 1995, served as President of the Association of Professors of Cardiology. He is the recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award and the James B Herrick Award from the AHA.
