Frank Grothues has been a Consultant Cardiologist and Director of the Echocardiography Service at the University Hospital Magdeburg since 2002. Shortly after his move to Magdeburg he spent a research year at the Cardiac Magnetic Resonance Unit of the Royal Brompton Hospital at Imperial College, London. Since then his main research activity has been in the field of cardiac magnetic resonance. His main interest is myocardial perfusion and late enhancement imaging along with high-field imaging, namely 3 Tesla. Dr Grothues is a member of the German Cardiac Society, the European Society of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Magnetic Resonance. He started his residency in the Cardiology Department of the University Hospital in Cologne.
