Biography

Dr Fozia Ahmed is currently Equality, Diversity and Inclusion lead for the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Manchester Biomedical Research Centre (BRC) and Clinical Research Facility (CRF). 

She graduated from the University of Manchester in 2003 and undertook specialist training in cardiology in the North-West region. In 2015 she was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at Manchester University Hospitals, where she specialises in heart failure and cardiac devices. Between 2015-2024 she served as NIHR specialty co-lead for Cardiovascular Research in Greater Manchester. 

Her research interests include remote monitoring in heart failure, obesity and inflammation in heart failure and inclusive research; with a focus on practice-based clinical trials and re-designing pathways to improve patient outcomes.

Recognition 

  • 2013: The British Heart Rhythm Society (BHRS) Young Investigator’s Award (Clinical Science)
  • 2020: ‘The Roy Award’ at the National Pumping Marvellous Foundation Awards for outstanding contribution and excellence in heart failure care

Research Interests

  • Risk prediction models
  • Remote monitoring in heart failure
  • Prevention of cardiovascular infection, with a focus on re-designing clinical pathways to improve patient outcomes.
