Personal History

Dr Fozia Zahir Ahmed was born in Manchester, England. She is a consultant cardiologist at the Manchester Heart Centre, part of Manchester Royal Infirmary, where she specialises in heart failure and cardiac devices.1

 

Academic History

Dr Ahmed qualified from the University of Manchester in 2003 and undertook a speciality in cardiology in the North-West region.4, 5 

Her research in pacing-induced ventricular dysfunction and cardiac implantable electronic device infection using novel imaging strategies (including PET/CT) led to the award of her MD.4 She graduated from the Manchester Medical School in 2016.8

 

Career Overview

In 2010, Dr Ahmed was a Specialist Registrar in Cardiology (Devices) for the North West Deanery. She was also on the Task Force Committee for the Heart Rhythm UK (HRUK) group as an Ambassador for the Excellence in EP group.7

She was appointed as a Consultant Cardiologist at Manchester Royal Infirmary in 2015 with subspecialist interests in cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) and heart failure.4 Dr Ahmed is also the NIHR speciality lead for cardiovascular research at the Manchester Heart Centre.

In 2019, she became the clinical lead for a Health Innovation Manchester project to collate data from the devices of heart failure patients to spot signs of heart problems earlier and improve patient outcomes.3

She is also an Honorary Reader of Cardiovascular Sciences at the University of Manchester.2

  • Prevention of cardiovascular infection, with a focus on re-designing clinical pathways to improve patient outcomes.
