Don Poldermans is Professor of Medicine and Head of the Section of Perioperative Cardiac Care of the Erasmus Medical Centre, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He is board-certified in internal medicine, intensive care medicine and vascular medicine. He is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and an honorary member of the Dutch Society of Anesthesiology. He has published more than 250 manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals, including the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, JAMA, Circulation, and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. He is associate editor of the European Journal of Echocardiography and an editorial board member of the American Journal of Cardiology and the Journal of the American College of Cardiology. Dr Poldermans received his medical degree at the Erasmus Medical Centre in 1981. His postgraduate training includes internships and residencies in internal medicine, infectious diseases, intensive care medicine and vascular medicine at the Erasmus Medical Centre.
