Biography

Personal History

Dr Biljana Parapid was raised in a family dedicated to research and medicine. A Cardiologist trained in Serbia, the United States and France, she now practices in her hometown of Belgrade, Serbia.2

Dr Parapid is focused on women's health with a special passion for CardioObstetrics. Her clinical work is in primary and secondary prevention of coronary artery disease in women of all ages. She is proficient in French, English, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese.2, 3

 

Academic History

Dr Parapid graduated top of her M.D. class from the University of Belgrade in 2001 and did a Master’s program dedicated to the research of risk factors for the development of coronary heart disease after. In 2014, she obtained her PhD in the field of metabolic syndrome.3

She did part of her Residency training at Georgetown University School of Medicine (2004) and did her Fellowship (2011) at Paris VII Diderot University’s Bichat hospital where her work focused on heart transplant patients. At Paris VII–Diderot University, Dr Parapid became the first Serbian physician officially trained and certified for selection and early, post-operative follow up of the most complex cardiovascular patients.1, 3

In 2013, she was able to re-launch the cardiac transplant program of the Clinical Center of Serbia with the world-renowned cardiac surgeon Professor Patrick Nataf.3

 

Career Overview

Dr Parapid is Assistant Professor of Medicine at Belgrade University School of Medicine (BUSM), Senior Cardiologist of the Division of Cardiology of the Clinical Center of Serbia (CCS) and Honorary Proctor W.Harvey Teaching Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine.1, 3

Her research interests include coronary anatomy (in particular myocardial bridges), atherosclerosis disparities and metabolic syndrome.1

Dr Parapid is passionate about women’s cardiovascular health and #SheForShe actions both locally and internationally. She is a Leadership Council member of the Women in Cardiology Section of the American College of Cardiology.1
