This four-part video lecture series, part of Women As One's CLIMB® 2024 Skills Training Program, provides a comprehensive overview of mitral valve procedures, including anatomical considerations to be made during patient selection, and intra-procedural advice for optimal outcomes.
In this lecture, Dr João Cavalcante focuses on the role of CT imaging in transcatheter mitral valve repair (TMVR), specifically for valve-in-valve and valve-in-ring procedures. Dr Cavalcante outlines the importance of CT in assessing patient risk of left ventricular outflow tract (LVOT) obstruction, as well as strategies for mitigating LVOT obstruction when it does occur.

This focused programme, led by Dr Grace Lin and Prof Thibaud Damy, explores the complexities of ATTR-CM diagnosis and treatment. Faculty Biographies
João L Cavalcante
Director of Cardiac MRI and Structural CT Labs
Dr João L. Cavalcante earned his medical degree the Universidade Federal do Ceará in Fortaleza, Brazil. He did his internal medicine residency, chief residency and cardiology fellowship training at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan with Level II training in nuclear cardiology. He completed a dedicated 2-year advanced cardiovascular imaging fellowship at the Cleveland Clinic obtaining COCATS Level III in Interventional Echo, Cardiovascular CT and Cardiac MRI.
Dr Cavalcante is the Director of Cardiac MRI and Structural CT Labs of Minneapolis Heart Institute at the Abbott Northwestern Hospital, the largest cardiology practice in the Twin Cities. He is the Scientific Director of the Cardiovascular Imaging Research Center and Core Lab. His passion and track record is in multimodality Imaging and focus on valve and structural heart disease.
