Overview
In this on-demand version of the live broadcast, Radcliffe Medical Education bring together an outstanding faculty of international leaders to address how TEER therapy has driven unparalleled clinical outcomes across a diverse group of mitral regurgitation patients over the past two decades.
Dr Marta Sitges (University of Barcelona, ES) moderates proceedings, and is joined by Dr Paul Mahoney (Sentara Heart Hospital, US), Prof Francesco Maisano (San Raffaele Hospital, IT) and Dr Anita Asgar (Montreal Heart Institute, CA), for a series of insightful presentations, patient case studies and discussions, which will focus on long-term outcomes with TEER and consider the totality of evidence, including real-world data.
Note, the live version of this broadcast was CME accredited; this on-demand version is not.
Key Learning Objectives
- Recall the long-term outcomes of TEER from real-world and RCT data
- Apply the results of real-world data to both simple and complex patients
- Describe how TEER is being used to benefit a range of patients with MR
Target Audience
- Interventional Cardiologists
- Cardiothoracic Surgeons
- General Cardiologists

Faculty Biographies
Marta Sitges
Director, Cardiovascular Institute
Prof Marta Sitges is a senior consultant non-invasive cardiologist at the Cardiovascular Institute in Hospital Clinic and Professor of Medicine at the University of Barcelona. She has also been the Director of the Cardiovascular Institute since October 2015.
Her main clinical practice is related to clinical and interventional echocardiography, sports cardiology and heart valve disease. She has an extensive publication track in these fields with participation in leading National and International meetings, she has received more than 60 peer reviewed grants and directed multiple MD and PhD thesis.
Paul Mahoney
Structural Heart and Complex Coronary Interventions Director
Dr Paul Mahoney is a cardiologist in Norfolk, Virginia. Dr Mahoney serves as the Medical Director of the Sentara Structural Heart Program, and has as a particular focus on the diagnosis and treatment of structural heart disease.
He performs interventions such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement, Mitra-Clip, left atrial appendage closure, balloon valvuloplasty of the aortic and mitral valves, and non-surgical closure of atrial and ventricular septal defects.
Francesco Maisano
Head of Cardiac Surgery, Director of the Valve Center
Prof Maisano is Professor of Cardiac Surgery and Director of the Valve Center at San Raffaele Research Hospital in Milan.
Prof Maisano is a cardiac surgeon with large experience in standard cardiovascular treatments and innovative technologies, as well as cross-trained in interventional cardiology, with specific focus on structural interventions.
In his research, Prof Maisano was the principal investigator of the ACCESS EU Registry, the largest European registry monitoring the real-world results of MitraClip therapy. He is the co-inventor of a surgical annular prosthesis, which is now a standard surgical technique in the treatment of functional mitral valve regurgitation.
Prof Maisano is an Editorial Board member of Cardiac Failure Review.
Anita W Asgar
Interventional Cardiologist
Dr Anita Asgar is an Interventional Cardiologist working at the Montreal Heart Institute, and Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Montreal.
Dr Asgar specialises in transcatheter valve interventions, congenital interventions and cardiac MRI. She is the lead cardiologist for the transcatheter mitral/tricuspid valve program at the Montreal Heart Institute. Her research interests include the treatment and management of valvular heart disease and cost-effectiveness analysis and she is currently the Director of Transcatheter Valve Therapy Research at the Montreal Heart Institute.
