Overview
Prof Aldo Rinaldi and Dr Jakob Gäbel will be interviewed by a young extractor, Dr Jonathan Behar, on key questions regarding patient selection, case set-up, risk management and patient outcomes.
Along the way they will discuss the latest technology for lead extraction including laser technology and how specific clinical cases can be tackled with a full toolbox.

Jonathan Behar
Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist
Dr Jonathan Behar is a Consultant Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust, London, UK.
He qualified from the Royal Free and UCL Medical School with a distinction in medical sciences in 2006. He completed general internal medicine and cardiology training in North London. He trained in electrophysiology and cardiac device implantation at the Barts Heart Centre, London.
Dr Behar has written over 80 peer reviewed papers and continues to present his work internationally and has co-directed several international cardiology meetings.
Dr Behar has a passion for addressing unmet clinical needs through translational and innovative solutions. He was an NHS England Clinical Entrepreneur Fellow and recently led a team which digitised pre-operative consent for patients undergoing cardiac procedures. Aldo Rinaldi
Electrophysiologist
Prof Aldo Rinaldi is an Electrophysiologist at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Trust Hospitals, London, UK.
He trained at King’s College Hospital becoming a member of the Royal College of Physicians in 1993 and a fellow in 2006. He undertook his training in cardiology at Guy’s & St Thomas’ Hospitals with dual accreditation in cardiology and general medicine.
Prof Rinaldi has a special interest in cardiac resynchronisation therapy for heart failure, laser lead extraction and treatment of atrial fibrillation. He leads the electrophysiology service at St Thomas’ Hospital and the Cardiac Device Research Programme. He has published over 500 peer-reviewed papers and book chapters.
Jakob Gäbel
Cardiothoracic Surgeon
Dr Jakob Gäbel is a consultant cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, SE.
Dr Gäbel has been involved in lead extractions at Sahlgrenska University Hospital since 2001. His other interests include heart and lung transplantation, mechanical circulatory support and aortic surgery. He served as Head of the Department from 2013 to 2022.
