2nd Structural Intervention Montreal (SIM)
Program Description
Using didactic and clinical case presentations, an expert faculty will highlight innovations and recent developments in transcatheter valvular and structural heart disease interventions. Attendees will better understand the process of the “Heart Team” and how it can be implemented in clinical practice to improve patient outcomes.
The course will review the essentials of pre, intra and post-procedural management of patients undergoing left atrial appendage closure, aortic stenosis and mitral regurgitation. More specifically, the course will focus on concepts related to patient selection, multi-modality imaging and procedural techniques. We will also address closure of patent foramen ovale, atrial and ventricular septal defects and paravalvular leaks.
Course Learning Objectives
Upon conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:
-
Recognize the anatomy of heart structures (macroscopically, fluoroscopic, echocardiography, mult-slice computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging)
-
Assess the need and describe different techniques to percutaneously close the left atrial appendage.
-
Understand the possible treatment options for aortic valve disease including indications and contra-indications (surgical aortic valve replacememnt, sutureless valve replacement, balloon aortic valvuloplasty, transcatheter aortic valve replacement)
-
Understand the anatomy of the mitral valve apparatus, and review the current strategies for transcatheter repair or replacement of the mitral valve.
-
Recognize the indications and identify the different transcatheter approaches to correct patent foramen ovale, atrial and ventricular septal defects and aortic and mitral paravalvular leaks.
