In this webinar experts in ICD therapy will show how to increase the accurate and timely diagnosis of atrial fibrillation (AF) to improve AF patient outcomes.

Dr Mathias Busch (Greifswald, DE) will present the importance of detecting new onset AF in patients with a single chamber ICD. Dr Martin Martinek (Linz, AT) will show the efficacy of atrial antitachycardia pacing in reducing persistent AF in patients with a pacemaker, ICD or CRT device. The session will be moderated by Dr Mathias Meine (Utrecht, NL).


Dr Mathias Meine is a cardiologist in the Utrecht Medical Center in Utrecht, The Netherlands where he is responsible for ICD and pacemaker therapy. His research activities are focused on the prediction and treatment of tachyarrhythmias in heart failure patients and improving cardiac resynchronization therapy.



Dr Mathias Busch is deputy director of the department for cardiology, pneumology, angiology and medical intensive care since 2017 and head of the Rhythmology division since 2011 at the University Hospital of Greifswald, Germany. His professional focus is on interventional patient care (mainly electrophysiology, devices, structural heart) and physician education (e.g. EP fellowship program certified by German cardiac society).


Assoc Prof Martin Martinek is senior consultant for internal medicine, cardiology, angiology, and intensive care medicine. He is senior electrophysiologist and head of the department for device therapy at the Ordensklinikum Linz Elisabethinen and consultant for EP at the University Clinic of St. Pölten, Austria. His main scientific focus is on the ablation of atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia, as well as device therapy.

This webinar aims to inform cardiologists, cardiac device implanters and allied healthcare professionals who are involved in the referral, implantation and/or follow-up of patients with ICDs on:

  • AF as a growing disease, important as it may result in increased mortality, stroke and cardiac decompensation.
  • Incidence of new onset detection atrial fibrillation and the importance of detecting this in patients with single chamber ICDs.
  • How atrial antitachycardia pacing (Reactive ATP) works and reduces the incidence of persistent and/or permanent AF in patients with an implanted cardiac device.
  • Cardiologists/electrophysiologists involved in the implantation and/or follow-up of ICDs.
  • Allied healthcare professionals such as physiologists, hospital technicians or nurses involved in ICD therapies.
