Biography
Dr Nadira Hamid is a non-invasive cardiologist specialising in advanced echocardiography and structural heart disease. She is Director of the Echocardiography Core Laboratory at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where she supports structural heart and valvular disease programmes through multimodality cardiac imaging.
Her clinical practice focuses on echocardiography-guided assessment and imaging support for transcatheter structural heart interventions, including aortic, mitral, and tricuspid valve procedures.
Current Roles and Responsibilities
Since January 2024, Dr Hamid has served as Director of the Echocardiography Core Laboratory at the Minneapolis Heart Institute Foundation. In this role, she oversees echocardiography imaging protocols, quality assurance, and clinical imaging support for structural heart disease and valvular heart disease programmes.
She works within a multidisciplinary heart team, integrating transthoracic and transoesophageal echocardiography with cardiac CT and other imaging modalities for patient selection, procedural planning, intraprocedural guidance, and long-term follow-up of transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacement, and transcatheter tricuspid valve interventions.
Her responsibilities also include programme development, quality improvement initiatives, education of cardiology fellows and cardiac sonographers, and clinical collaboration with referring physicians.
Education and Training
Dr Hamid received her medical degree from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) between 2000 and 2005. Her postgraduate and subspecialty training includes:
- Medical Degree (MB) – Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), 2000–2005
- Postgraduate Training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology – Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (MRCPI, FRCPI) and Royal College of Physicians (UK)
- Cardiology Fellowship – National Heart Centre Singapore, 2010–2013
- Structural Interventional Echocardiography Training – Columbia University Medical Center, New York, 2014–2016
- Master of Clinical Investigation (MCI) – National University of Singapore
Clinical and Research Interests
Dr Hamid’s clinical interests include valvular heart disease, encompassing aortic stenosis, mitral regurgitation, tricuspid regurgitation, and complex multivalve pathology. Her work includes imaging support for transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR), transcatheter mitral valve repair and replacement, and emerging transcatheter tricuspid interventions, with emphasis on patient selection, procedural imaging guidance, and longitudinal assessment.
Her research activities include participation in multicentre clinical trials and registries in structural heart disease. She has authored and co-authored publications addressing echocardiographic imaging protocols, right-sided valve disease, and interactions between heart failure and valvular pathology.
Educational Initiatives: Nail It with Nadira
Dr Hamid is the creator and host of Nail It with Nadira, an educational series focused on advanced echocardiography and multimodality imaging for structural heart disease. The series addresses imaging strategy, anatomical assessment, and procedural considerations for transcatheter structural heart interventions, with content aimed at cardiologists, cardiac imagers, and members of multidisciplinary heart teams.
A dedicated Nail It with Nadira edition has been developed in collaboration with Radcliffe Cardiology. This edition is delivered as an interactive, online webinar format and features hands-on, case-based discussions led by invited expert faculty. The programme is freely accessible and designed to support continuing education in imaging-guided structural heart interventions.
Academic and Professional Engagement
Dr Hamid is involved in cardiovascular education as an invited speaker at regional, national, and international meetings, including conferences focused on structural heart disease and cardiovascular imaging. She holds fellowship status with the American College of Cardiology (FACC), the American Society of Echocardiography (FASE), the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), and the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland (FRCPI).
She also contributes to professional education through webinars, structured educational programmes, and digital platforms addressing echocardiography and imaging-guided structural heart interventions.
