Biography
Dr. Azzalini is the Director of Interventional Cardiology Research and Associate Professor of Medicine at University of Washington, in Seattle, WA.
He graduated magna cum laude from University of Padua in Italy in 2006. He subsequently completed cardiology training, a master’s degree in research methodology and a PhD in medicine at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain. He completed two fellowships in interventional cardiology at the Montreal Heart Institute and Mount Sinai Hospital in New York. Before joining UW he was Director of Complex Coronary Interventions at Virginia Commonwealth University, in Richmond, VA.
His clinical and research expertise is represented by chronic total occlusion PCI, plaque modification, mechanical circulatory support, acute kidney injury after PCI, and vascular access. He has published over 320 peer-reviewed manuscripts (including several publications in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, Circulation, and European Heart Journal), received numerous international awards, is member of the editorial board of the Canadian Journal of Cardiology, Eurointervention, International Journal of Cardiology, Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine, Cardiovascular Revascularization Medicine: Interesting Cases, Interventional Cardiology Review: Reviews, Research and Resources, and Minerva Cardiology and Angiology, and is guest reviewer for other twenty journals.
In his free time, Dr. Azzalini enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, cooking, and sailing.
