Biography

Prof Dr Karl-Heinz Kuck is a senior cardiologist and clinical electrophysiologist based in Hamburg, Germany. He currently serves as Medical Director at LANS Cardio Hamburg. Over several decades, he has played a central role in shaping modern cardiac electrophysiology in Germany and across Europe.

 

Academic History

Prof Kuck completed his medical education and specialist training in cardiology in Germany, developing an early focus on cardiac electrophysiology and interventional arrhythmia management. His academic career has combined clinical leadership with research, education and professional service at the highest international level.

He holds a professorship in cardiology and has been actively involved in training cardiologists and electrophysiologists throughout his career.

 

Career Overview

For many years, Prof Kuck served as Head of the Department of Cardiology at Asklepios Klinik St. Georg in Hamburg, where he led one of Germany’s most prominent cardiology and electrophysiology centres. Under his leadership, the department became internationally recognised for innovation in arrhythmia management and catheter ablation.

Prof Kuck is internationally known for his contributions to clinical electrophysiology, particularly in the diagnosis and interventional treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. His work has significantly influenced electrophysiology practice and education in Europe.

In addition to his clinical and academic roles, Prof Kuck has held major leadership positions within professional societies. He served as President of the European Heart Rhythm Association (EHRA) and as President of the German Society for Cardiology – Heart and Circulatory Research, contributing to guideline development, education and strategic direction at both European and national levels.

Prof Kuck has received multiple prestigious awards in recognition of his scientific and clinical contributions, including the Science Prize of the Gertrud Spitz Foundation and a Silver Badge of Honour from the German Society for Cardiology.

He is actively involved in scientific publishing and serves as Section Editor for Clinical Electrophysiology and Ablation at Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology Review (AER). He is also a member of the AER editorial board.
