Biography

Dr José Montero-Cabezas is an interventional cardiologist at Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), Netherlands. He completed his cardiology training at the 12 de Octubre University Hospital (Complutense University, Madrid), followed by a fellowship in interventional cardiology at LUMC. He holds a PhD from Leiden University, a Master’s degree in Healthcare Management and Administration from CEU University (Spain), and completed a postgraduate program in Clinical Research at Harvard Medical School (USA).

Dr Montero-Cabezas has a particular clinical and research interest in complex percutaneous coronary interventions (with a focus on chronic total occlusions), mechanical circulatory support, invasive therapies for acute pulmonary embolism, and structural heart interventions such as TAVI.

He is a co-founder and core member of the LUMC Shock Team, a multidisciplinary group dedicated to the management of cardiogenic shock, and of ALERT (Acute Pulmonary Embolism Response Team). He also serves as co-coordinator of the local SCAD (Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection) program.
