Biography

Jose L Zamorano is Professor of Medicine at the University Alcala de Henares, Madrid, and the Chief of Cardiology at the University Hospital Ramón y Cajal.

Prof Zamorano’s has a broad range of research interests including heart failure, ischaemic heart disease, cardiovascular risk factors and cardiovascular imaging modalities. Within these fields, Prof Zamorano he is widely published with over 500 articles and twenty books including the European Textbook of Cardiovascular Imaging. 

Prof Zamorano has been actively participating in International Scientific Societies. Has served as Vicepresident of the European Society of Cardiology. He served as Secretary of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), President of the European Association of Echocardiography (EAE), International Advisor of the American College of Cardiology’s International Committee, Director of the scientific programme in imaging for the ESC Congress, and Chair of the Practice Guidelines Committee and Global Affairs of the ESC.

Over the past 20 years, Prof Zamorano has received a number of prestigious Spanish and International awards, such as the Golden Plaque of the Public Health Authorities of Madrid and the Inge Edler Gold Medal, the silver medal of the European Society of Cardiology, Honorary member of the American Society of Echocardiography and Research Award of the Spanish Society of Cardiology. He has served in different Editorial Boards of Research journals as the Spanish Journal of Cardiology, European Journal of echocardiography, European Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging, Journal of the American Society of Echocardiography, European Heart Journal, Journal of American College of Cardiology Cardiovascular Imaging. Prof Zamorano is Associate Editor of the European Journal of Cardiovascular Imaging and is on the Editorial Board of European Cardiology Review.
