Jan Peder Amlie has been President of the Cardiology section of the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS-CS) since 2002, with responsibility for harmonisation education and post-graduate training in cardiology in Europe. He was President of the Norwegian Society of Cardiology from 1987 to 1990. He has been Professor at the Rikshospitalet since 1991, having joined the hospital in 1973 when he became a specialist in internal medicine and cardiology. Prior to joining the hospital staff, he also served as assistant at the University Clinic of Ørebro (1969-73). A specialist in cardiac electrophysiology, Dr Amlie has written more than 120 scientific papers and one book, receiving a Gold Stethoscope from the Norwegian Society of Cardiology for his work.
