Biography

Giuseppe Rosano was born and raised in Vibo Valentia, Italy, where he developed an early interest in medicine and cardiovascular science. While detailed information about his family and early childhood is not widely published, his Italian background and international academic career reflect strong cultural roots combined with global engagement in cardiovascular medicine.

 

Academic History

Professor Rosano obtained his Medical Degree in Medicine and Surgery with full honours from La Sapienza University of Rome in 1988. He subsequently completed his specialisation in Cardiology in 1992. Following his clinical training, he pursued advanced academic and research qualifications in the United Kingdom, earning both an MSc and a PhD in Medical Sciences from Imperial College London. His postgraduate research focused on cardiovascular physiology and pharmacology, forming the foundation of his future work in heart failure and cardiac metabolism.

Professor Rosano is a Consultant Cardiologist and Professor of Cardiology at St George’s, University of London, where he also serves as Director of the MSc in Heart Failure. Alongside his UK appointments, he has held academic roles in Italy and has been actively involved in European regulatory and advisory bodies.

He has served as a core member of the Cardiovascular Working Party of the European Medicines Agency and as a member of the Pricing and Reimbursement Committee of the Italian Drug Agency, contributing to regulatory decisions on cardiovascular medicines. His academic leadership extends to editorial responsibilities, serving on the editorial boards of leading international journals including European Journal of Heart Failure, European Heart Journal – Cardiovascular Pharmacotherapy, Cardiac Failure Review, and Cardiovascular Diabetology. Professor Rosano’s research and clinical interests include heart failure, cardiac metabolism, cardiovascular pharmacology and pharmacotherapy, heart disease in women, and the cardiovascular effects of sex hormones. He has a particular focus on chronic coronary syndromes and angina in patients with normal coronary arteries, areas in which he is regarded as a leading international authority.

Over the course of his career, Professor Rosano has authored more than 500 peer-reviewed scientific articles, as well as eight books and 32 book chapters, and is a frequent invited speaker at major international cardiology conferences.
