Dr Carlo Pappone is an internationally recognised cardiologist specialising in cardiac electrophysiology. He is based in Milan, Italy, where he lives and works. Over the course of his career, he has been closely associated with leading academic institutions and has played a significant role in advancing the interventional treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.

Academic History

Dr Pappone completed his medical education and specialist cardiology training in Italy. During his postgraduate training, he developed a strong focus on cardiac electrophysiology and arrhythmology, acquiring advanced expertise in catheter-based diagnostic and therapeutic techniques.

Alongside his clinical training, Dr Pappone pursued an academic career and has authored more than 140 peer-reviewed scientific publications across a broad range of cardiology disciplines. His research work has been widely cited and has contributed substantially to the understanding and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias.

Career Overview

Dr Pappone currently serves as Director of the Department of Arrhythmology at Hospital San Raffaele in Milan. In this role, he leads advanced clinical programmes in electrophysiology and oversees the treatment of patients with complex arrhythmias using catheter ablation and device-based therapies.

His main clinical and research interests include cardiac electrophysiology, catheter ablation of atrial and ventricular arrhythmias, inherited arrhythmia syndromes such as Brugada syndrome, and electrical device therapy for patients with heart failure.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr Pappone is actively involved in academic publishing. He serves as a member of editorial boards and as a consultant reviewer for numerous high-impact international medical journals and is a member of the Arrhythmia & Electrophysiology Review editorial board.

Career Timeline

  • Early Career: Completed medical degree and cardiology training in Italy, followed by advanced training in cardiac electrophysiology.
  • Mid Career: Established an international reputation through pioneering work in catheter ablation, arrhythmia management, and academic research.
  • Current: Director of the Department of Arrhythmology at Hospital San Raffaele, Milan, and active contributor to international research, education, and editorial leadership in electrophysiology.

Recognition

Dr Pappone is widely recognised as a leading authority in cardiac electrophysiology and catheter ablation. His scientific work has been published in many of the world’s most prestigious medical journals, and he is a frequent invited speaker at international cardiology and electrophysiology conferences. His contributions have helped shape modern clinical practice in the management of complex cardiac arrhythmias.
