Professor Anna Dominiczak is Regius Professor of Medicine, Vice Principal and Head of College of Medical, Veterinary and Life Sciences at the University of Glasgow as well as honorary consultant physician with the Greater Glasgow and Clyde Health Board.
A graduate of the Medical School in Gdansk, Poland, Prof Dominiczak, is one of the world’s leading cardiovascular scientists and clinical academics. She held a British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Glasgow between 1997 and 2010, as well as the directorship of the Cardiovascular Research Centre between 2000 and 2010. Her major research interests are in hypertension, cardiovascular genomics and systems medicine and her total research income in the last three years totals more than £30 million.
Prof Dominiczak is a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the Academy of Medical Sciences, the Royal Society of Edinburgh, the American Heart Association and the European Society of Cardiology as well as a member of the Association of Physicians of Great Britain and Ireland, the European Society of Hypertension, American Physiological Society, Society of Endocrinology, British Hypertension Society and British Cardiovascular Society.
She was a secretary of the Scientific Council of the International Society of Hypertension between 2002 and 2006 and is currently a member at large of the Scientific Council of the European Society of Hypertension, and a member of the Leadership Committee of the Council for High Blood Pressure Research of the American Heart Association.
With more than 250 publications in peer-reviewed journals, in 2005 her services to medicine were recognised by the Queen who awarded her with an OBE.
In addition to membership of several editorial boards, Professor Dominiczak was Editor-in-Chief of Clinical Science between 2004 and 2008, an Associate Editor of the Journal of Hypertension between 2009 and 2011 and Editor-in-Chief of Hypertension as from January 2012.
Her expertise and scientific and clinical contributions are widely recognised with invitations to serve on the Medical Research Council Physiological Medicine Board, British Heart Foundation Project Grant Committee, the Wellcome Trust Physiological Science Committee, the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Leducq Foundation, the Max Dellbrück Centre in Berlin and the George Pompidou European Hospital (HEGP) in Paris.
She has been invited to give over 100 international plenary and state-of-the-art lectures, including the Presidential Award and Lecture of the Canadian Hypertension Society, the Corcoran Award and Lecture of the American Heart Association, R. D. Wright Award and Lecture of the high Blood Pressure Research Council of Australia and the Bjorn Folkow Award and Lecture of the European Society of Hypertension. In 2010 Anna is also a Sackler Lecturer at the Tel Aviv University.
