Better Precision Imaging and Navigation of the Heart

The CARTOMERGE™ Image Integration Module enables electrophysiologists to create three dimensional (3-D) electro-anatomical maps that are registered with computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance images (MRI). Merging the CT/MRI with the CARTO™ XP system 3-D map gives electrophysiologists a more precise view of the heart, allowing them to more effectively navigate catheters to targeted points within the heart. Commenting on the procedure Dr Hugh Calkins of John Hopkins University said,

The CARTOMERGE Software Module, used with the Biosense Webster CARTO XP Electroanatomical Navigation System, allows physicians to accurately locate and map arrhythmias. The CARTOMERGE Module offers electrophysiologists image registration in three steps importing the CT or MRI, processing the image on a radiology or CARTO XP System workstation and registering the images, in response to the new technology. Biosense Webster President, Roy Tanaka, commented:

The CARTOMERGE Image Integration Module combines the accuracy of the CARTO XP Navigation System with the precision of pre-acquired 3-D CT or MRI. CARTOMERGE provides accurate anatomical registration for greater confidence in navigation. It requires minimal point acquisition for effective development of treatment strategy. It allows quick and easy processing of pre-acquired images into multiple cardiac structures, and provides new tools for procedure planning and targeting.

Additional benefits of the CARTOMERGE Image Integration Module include full digital images and communications in medicine (DICOM) 3 compatibility, minimal point acquisition for effective development of treatment strategy, new tools for procedure planning and targeting and improved speed of the system.
