David Antoniucci Head, Division of Cardiology, Careggi Hospital David Antoniucci is Head of the Division of Cardiology at Careggi Hospital in Florence, Italy. As an investigator, he focuses on interventional cardiology and has participated or co-ordinated key trials on reperfusive treatment for acute myocardial infarction (the FRESCO, ACE, ASSENT-4, EMERALD and BRAVE-2 trials). He is the author of several papers in top-ranked journals and books on interventional cardiology on areas including drug-eluting stent thrombosis, myocardial infarction and primary coronary angioplasty. Dr Antoniucci is a member of numerous professional associations and societies.
Antonio Colombo Director, Catheterisation Laboratory, EMO Centro Cuore Columbus Antonio Colombo is Director of the Catheterisation Laboratory at the EMO Centro Cuore Columbus in Milan, Italy. Dr Colombo pioneered the concept of adequate stent deployment during coronary interventions, and he defined the role of intravascular ultrasound in this setting. He is very active in multiple medical societies, including the American College of Cardiology (ACC), the American Heart Association (AHA), the American College of Physicians (ACP), the American College of Chest Physicians (ACCP) and the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr Colombo obtained his MD from the University of Milan School of Medicine in 1975.
Martin B Leon Professor of Medicine, Columbia University Medical Center Martin B Leon is a Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Medical Center (CUMC) and is the Chairman Emeritus of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF). He is also the Associate Director of the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapy (CIVT) at CUMC and a practising interventional cardiologist at New York- Presbyterian Hospital/CUMC. Dr Leon has served as principal investigator for numerous clinical trials that have helped shape the field of interventional vascular medicine, including the STARS, Gamma-1 and, most recently, SIRIUS trials, which helped to establish drug-eluting stents as the current standard of care for many cases of cardiovascular disease.
Gary S Mintz Medical Director of Publications and Websites and Editor-in-Chief of, Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) Gary S Mintz is Medical Director of Publications and Websites and Editor-in-Chief of at the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF). He is a pioneer and a recognised authority in the field of intravascular ultrasound. Dr Mintz is the author of over 550 manuscripts, 500 abstracts, 50 book chapters and the single-authored text Intracoronary Ultrasound. His prior university employment included Professor of Medicine at the Likoff Cardiovascular Institute. Dr Mintz completed medical school and his internship, residency and cardiology fellowship at Hahnemann Medical College and Hahnemann University Hospital.
Marc van Sambeek Head, Section of Vascular Surgery, Erasmus University Medical Centre Marc van Sambeek is Head of the Section of Vascular Surgery at Erasmus University Medical Centre in Rotterdam, a position he has held since 2003. Dr van Sambeek is a member of the Editorial Board of the Journal of Endovascular Therapy, the Journal of Cardiovascular Surgery and Vascular Surgery, and Deputy Editor of EuroIntervention. He was also a course director of EuroPCR07. He received advanced training in vascular surgery at the University Hospital Rotterdam.
Gregg W Stone Chairman and Chief Medical Officer, Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) Gregg W Stone is Chairman and Chief Medical Officer of the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF). He is also a Professor of Medicine at Columbia University and Director of Cardiovascular Research and Education at the Center for Interventional Vascular Therapies at Columbia University Medical Center. Dr Stone has served as the principal investigator for more than 30 national and international multicentre randomised trials, has authored over 600 book chapters, manuscripts and abstracts published in the peer-reviewed literature and has delivered over 1,000 invited lectures around the world.
Horst Sievert Chairman, Interventional Cardiology Section, International Academy of Cardiology Horst Sievert is Chairman of the Interventional Cardiology Section at the International Academy of Cardiology. He is also Director of the CardioVascular Centre Frankfurt, Sankt Katharinen and the Department of Internal Medicine, Cardiology and Vascular Medicine of the Sankt Katharinen Hospital in Frankfurt. Dr Sievert is also an Associate Professor of Internal Medicine/Cardiology at the University of Frankfurt. He has been the principle invesigator of a number of clinical trials and has authored more than 130 manuscripts and 500 abstracts in peer-reviewed journals. Dr Sievert is a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (ACC) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), among others. He completed his MD at the University of Frankfurt, Germany.
Martyn Thomas President, British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) Martyn Thomas is President of the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) and Clinical Director of Cardiology and Cardiothoracic Surgery at King’s College Hospital, London. Prior to his current positions, Dr Thomas completed his training in interventional cardiology at King’s College Hospital. He has taught a number of techniques, including rotablator, wall-stent deployment, brachytherapy and PMR, throughout the world. Dr Thomas currently serves as an adviser for the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) assessment of drug-eluting stents. He has published numerous papers in peer-reviewed publications, including, notably, a method of risk stratification for percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty.
Alec Vahanian Head, Cardiology Department, Bichat Hospital, Paris Alec Vahanian is Head of the Cardiology Department at Bichat Hospital, Paris, and Professor of Cardiology at University Paris VII. His key research interests include valvular heart disease (particularly percutaneous mitral commissurotomy) and acute coronary syndromes (particularly antithrombotic treatment and interventional management). He was President and Council Member of the French Federation of Cardiology from 2003 to 2007 and as Chairman of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) Task Force on Valvular Heart Disease. Between 1999 and 2004 he served as Chairman of the EuroHeart Survey on Valvular Heart Disease. He is an Associate Editor of EuroIntervention and author of 229 papers in peer-reviewed journals and 30 book chapters.
