Director of the Clinical Electrophysiology Unit, Fondazione Cardiocentro Ticino, Lugano, Switzerland
Angelo Auricchio is director of the Clinical Electrophysiology Unit at Fondazione Cardiocentro Ticino, Lugano, Switzerland, and Professor of Cardiology at University Hospital in Magdeburg, Germany. Prof. Angelo specialises in ventricular arrhythmias and sudden cardiac death.
Professor of Clinical Cardiology, St. George's University of London
Professor John Camm became Professor of Clinical Cardiology at St. George’s University of London 1986. He continues to hold this positions alongside positions as Professor of Clinical Cardiology at St George’s Hospital London and Professor of Cardiology at Imperial College London.
An internationally renowned expert in atrial fibrillation (AF), Prof Camm leads the European Network for translational research in atrial fibrillation, which works towards a better understanding of AF. Other research interests include ventricular tachycardia, cardiomyopathy, pacemakers and sudden cardiac death.
Professor Camm is a Senior Consulting Editor for the European Heart Journal and Editor of the European Society of Cardiology Textbook of Cardiovascular Medicine. He has received numerous awards for his contributions to cardiology, including the British Cardiovascular Society Mackenzie Medal and the European Society of Cardiology Gold Medal.
MRC Clinical Research Fellow
Dr Christopher Cook is a MRC Clinical Research Fellow at the National Heart and Lung Institute, Imperial College London. He studied Medicine at UCL, graduating with Distinction and multiple prizes including the prestigious Proxime Accessit Gold Medal Medicine (London) in 2009.
His primary research interests are in the fields of coronary physiology and invasive haemodynamics. He was the winner of the inaugural PCR’s Got Talent award at EuroPCR2015 and he has since been a EuroPCR Programme Committee member.
Senior Research Fellow
Dr Justin Davies is a Senior Research Fellow and Consultant Cardiologist at Imperial College London. He also completed his undergraduate training and continued on to complete his PhD at Imperial after being awarded a British Heart Foundation research fellowship.
Now a leading clinical academic in the field of interventional cardiology, Dr Davies has pioneered several new techniques, including coronary wave intensity and instantaneous wave-free ratio (iFR). He is also published extensively in the field of hypertension and coronary and large artery physiology.
Dr Robert Gerber is a Consultant Cardiologist at Conquest Hospital and Eastbourne District General Hospital in East Sussex. Having completed his medical training at King's College London, he went on to complete the MB/PhD programme.
Dr Gerber is qualified in both General Internal Medicine and General Cardiology with a sub-speciality in Interventional Cardiology. He has also previously worked as an Interventional fellowship at San Raffaele and Columbus Hospitals in Milan, Italy.
Dr Robert Gerber is also highly involved in research and teaching, and he is module leader for the MSc in Cardiology at Brighton and Sussex University (BSUH). He is also a member of the British Hypertension Society (BHS), the British Cardiovascular Intervention Society (BCIS) and the European Association of Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (EAPCI).
Dr Gerber has published extensively in the field of interventional cardiology, and is also the ESHT Principal Investigator of several randomized clinical trials. A keen sportsman, Dr Gerber uses his cardiac and sports knowledge to run healthy heart screening programmes.
Dr Duncan Hogg, gained his medical qualification at the University of Aberdeen in 1994. In 1997 he became a Member of the Royal College of Physicians. Dr Hogg received his general cardiology training at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and completed specialist training in Cardiology & General Internal Medicine (GIM) in 2007. Dr Hogg has Specialist Registration with the General Medical Council for Cardiology & GIM.
Dr Hogg has previously worked in interventional cardiology at the Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre in Toronto, Canada, where he had specialist training in all aspects of percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). Dr Hogg has also closely studied coagulation platelet activity changes in patients with atrial fibrillation pre- and post electrical cardioversion during his time as a British Heart Foundation sponsored junior research fellow.
A Consultant Cardiologist at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary since April 2009, Dr Hogg now practises in general cardiology with a sub-speciality interest in PCI. Also based at BMI Albyn Hospital, Dr Hogg sees patients with a wide range of known cardiac problems, such as angina, heart failure, valvular heart disease and arrhythmias. He also sees patients for peri-operative cardiac assessment and for evaluation of occupational implications of cardiac disease.
Professor of Interventional Cardiology
Professor James Nolan is a Consultant Cardiologist and Professor of Interventional Cardiology, as well as a member of the British Coronary Intervention Society and British Cardiovascular Society. He has particular interest in transradial cardiac procedures and percutaneous coronary intervention. Having published extensively in the field of radial access and percutaneous intervention, Prof Nolan’s other research includes heart failure and autonomic dysfunction.
Professor Nolan has completed his medical training as a Registrar in Royal Free Hospital, a Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh, a Senior Registrar in Leeds and an Interventional Fellow in Amsterdam. He now balances a busy clinical schedule as a Consultant Cardiologist at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust, while contributing heavily to postgraduate education and research as Professor of Interventional Cardiology at Keele University.
Consultant in Cardiac Electrophysiology & Devices
Dr Afzal Sohaib is a Consultant Cardiologist at the Bart's Heart Centre in London and Barking, Havering, and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust. Having completed his medical training at University College London, Dr Sohaib undertook training as a Cardiology registrar at centres in North West London including Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust and Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospitals NHS Trust. His main research interest lies in cardiac electrophysiology and devices, having also completed a PhD studying how biventricular pacemakers deliver benefits in heart failure.
Dr Sohaib has an interest in improving teaching and training in cardiology and has served on the Specialty Advisory Committee for Cardiovascular Medicine at the Royal College of Physicians which designs and oversees the delivery of cardiology training in the UK. Dr Afzal Sohaib is currently on the ESC Cardiologists' of Tomorrow Nucleus initiative, has directed the annual British Junior Cardiologists' Association (BJCA) meeting, and is involved in designing the programme for the ESC Congress.
