The term acute coronary syndrome (ACS) encompasses three related but distinct clinical entities – unstable angina, non-ST-segment elevation MI (NSTEMI), and ST-segment elevation MI (STEMI). Management of ACS should encompass both acute and long-term strategies, as outlined in guidance from the European Society of Cardiology and American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association.
